Toyota spotlights new RAV4 for safety-first SDV concept

Toyota’s sixth RAV4 will be its first software-defined model, which will drive the company’s safety-first approach to the technology. By Will Girling

During an event livestreamed from Tokyo on 21 May 2025, Toyota revealed the latest version of its ever-popular RAV4 compact crossover SUV. First launched in 1994, the model is now available in 180 countries and has sold 15 million units. For the sixth iteration, the automaker is taking its first step into what many consider the future of mobility: software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
