Skanska USA, the American arm of the Sweden-based builder and developer, has delivered a $560 million, 288,000-square-foot hospital tower in Manhasset, New York.

North Shore University Hospital announced Feb. 1 the completion of the Petrocelli Surgical Pavilion, which Skanska USA broke ground on in April 2020. The investment by Northwell Health, which bills itself as New York State’s largest health care provider, represents one of the most significant projects of its kind in the area, according to the release.

The contractor used several types of technology during the construction process, according to the release. Teams deployed drones equipped with cameras and sensors, which provided real-time views of progress and site conditions. In addition, 3D models and a weekly 360-degree image and video capture helped the firm better assess the jobsite.

Skanska created its drone program in 2015, and it has grown to encompass more than 70 employees across the company. The group comes up with uses for the tech across Skanska USA jobsites.

The surgical pavilion features 18 operating rooms and 132 intensive care rooms. The project expands the critical care capabilities of NSUH, which has 756 licensed beds and treats more than 90,000 patients annually.
