Questionable Choices in Golf Fashion Are Nothing New

All eyes were on Pinehurst Thursday as the first round of the U.S. Open got underway. Would Tiger Woods make the cut? Could Scottie Scheffler extend his winning streak to six? Would Rory McIlroy’s no-longer-estranged-wife be in attendance?

But beyond the drama on and off the course, there’s the backstory about the fashions being worn at the tournament. Most of the players continue to dress relatively conservatively — the biggest buzz about Scheffler was not his staid Nike polo but his new buzz haircut — and even Jason Day lowered the volume from the loud Malbon outfits he wore at the Masters earlier this spring.

While Day may take a lot of ribbing for his unconventional wardrobe choices, he’s certainly not the first golfer to make a statement on the course with his fashion. Here, a look back at some of the wilder golf outfits the pros have worn over the years.
