Elle Fanning Puts an Edgy Twist on the Trench Coat While Out in NYC

Elle Fanning gave the trench coat an edgy makeover while out and about in New York City. The actress, who costars alongside Timothée Chalamet in the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” stepped out in New York City last night in a fresh take on fall style.

Fanning wore a look from Khaite’s fall 2024 collection consisting of designer Cate Holstein’s Lolo leather coat. Fanning paired the lambskin elongated-sleeve coat with a navy satin shirt, navy satin pants, Bottega Veneta’s Kalimero Citta bag, and Stuart Weitzman’s power booties — and was styled by Samantha McMillen, who has also worked with Daisy Ridley, Brie Larson and Dakota Fanning, among others.

Fanning’s coat hails from a collection that was all about the strength of vulnerability, and showcased through sculptural leather coats with big bold rounded shoulders, in super cropped and swingy silhouettes or elongated and with bubbled out hems.

The actress recently wore leather in an unexpected way when she attended the Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards, presented by Variety on Thursday, Nov. 15 in Los Angeles. For the occasion, Fanning donned a look by Dior that featured a plunging, backless dress with side cutouts, a full midi skirt, and long leather sleeves extending into gloves. Fanning accessorized the ensemble with a diamond necklace and black pointed-toe heels. Her look was also curated by McMillen.

Fanning is currently gearing up for the Dec. 25 release of “A Complete Unknown,” which has a cast that also includes Edward Norton, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook, Dan Fogler, Norbert Leo Butz and Scoot McNairy.

This past year Fanning also starred in a new campaign directed by Sofia Coppola for House of Suntory and Ruku Gin. The collaboration, dubbed the “Come Alive With the Seasons” campaign, saw the pair reuniting professionally for the first time since Coppola’s 2017 adaptation of “The Beguiled.” Coppola and Fanning first worked together in 2010 on the film “Somewhere.”

Outside of filming, Fanning also served as a juror for the L’Oréal Paris Lights on Women’s Worth prize at the Festival de Cannes this year. “Such platforms are essential in supporting emerging female talent, giving them the opportunity to showcase their unique skills and work and empowering them to become the artist they want to be,” Fanning said in a statement at the time, adding, “The extraordinary talents of last year’s finalists were truly breathtaking; I can’t wait to watch the films.”
