It was Sunday night before the Met Gala, and this year’s cohost Colman Domingo was busy bowling.
The actor was in the basement of the Gansevoort hotel at Dimes Seven24 for a pre-party hosted by styling duo Wayman + Micah, who had dressed Domingo for the event in a double-breasted tweed suit by Eleven Sixteen. For those following along: Blue Ivy recently wore a design by the label, designed by Ugo Mozie, onstage for the opening night of her mother’s “Cowboy Carter” tour.
Domingo, one of the earliest VIP arrivals at the party, was showing off his style on the lane, ball in hand, as the lively room continued to fill up. The actor was all smiles, and dance moves, as Taraji P. Henson stepped up into the roped-off VIP area, followed shortly by Dascha Polanco. And when the men of the evening arrived — Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald — the party was officially in full force.
Guests included Jodie Turner Smith, LaQuan Smith, Joshua Uduma, Romeo Hunte, Edvin Thompson, Jimmy Akingbola, Brandon Blackwood and Christian Siriano.
“Hey gorgeous, how are you?” said Domingo, greeting a red-suited guest as he started to make his way back toward the entrance.
DJ Brian Henry offered Domingo a shout-out as he strolled past with husband Raúl Domingo. But for those still vibing, the party was far from over.
“Lets get this shit going,” Henry called out between remixes of throwback hits, as a bartender, walking through the room with an unopened bottle of Don Julio on a tray atop his head, offered a simple but effective “cheers.”
