Alexandre Assouline has been named president of Assouline, a new post.
Most recently, he was chief of operations, brand and strategy.
Since joining the company as director of marketing and digital operations in 2016, Assouline has helped to modernize the brand. In 2018, he was named global vice president and three years later became chief of operations, brand and strategy and helped priortize its positioning as a luxury lifestyle brand.
Assouline is the son of Proper and Martine Assouline, who founded the company in 1994. The business remains family-owned and operated, though LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton has a minority stake and serves as adviser. Assouline is known for its well-designed, oversize coffee table books on fashion, art, architecture, photography, sports and travel.
In his new role as president, Assouline will continue to focus on spearheading the brand’s development, working closely with Proper and Martine Assouline.
In an interview in June, Assouline told WWD, “We’re not a publisher. We’re a luxury brand.”
Last year, Assouline celebrated its 30th anniversary and marked the moment with a surge of product development and an aggressive retail expansion with freestanding boutiques and “corners” inside department stores. The company had a pop-up on Madison Avenue last year. Assouline currently has 14 stores.
