A Complete History of the Victoria’s Secret Fantasy Bra

Those who remember the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show likely remember the Fantasy Bra. Following the inception of the annual spectacle in 1995, Victoria’s Secret upped the ante by crafting luxe lingerie covered in millions of dollars worth of jewels. Each year, one of the brand’s iconic “Angels” modeled these bespoke pieces on the catwalk. Claudia Schiffer, Gisele Bündchen and Adriana Lima are just a few supers who’ve sported them over the years.

Ahead, WWD looks back at more than two decades of Fantasy Bras.

1996

Claudia Schiffer was the first Victoria’s Secret model to don the Fantasy Bra. Adorned with 100 carats of diamonds, it was only shown in advertisements, though Tyra Banks later modeled it at the 1999 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Despite its hefty price tag, the Million Dollar Miracle Bra is one of the cheapest Fantasy Bras ever created.

1997

Tyra Banks’ Diamond Dream Bra was a strapless satin design lined with diamonds and a 42-carat stone at the center.

1998

The Dream Angel Fantasy Bra, worn by Daniela Pestova, featured a floral pattern embellished with diamonds and rubies.

1999

Featuring a starry night sky design, Heidi Klum’s first Fantasy Bra and matching panty were encrusted with more than 2,000 diamonds and sapphires.

2000

Victoria’s Secret topped itself by accessorizing the priciest Fantasy Bra with a matching panty. Both were decorated with diamonds and rubies. According to Guinness World Records, the Red Hot Fantasy Bra is the most expensive piece of lingerie ever made.

2001

Klum wore a Fantasy Bra designed by Lebanese jeweler Mouawad for the brand’s first televised fashion show in 2001. The Heavenly Star Bra, which came with matching underwear, included 1,200 pink sapphires and a 90-carat emerald-cut diamond.

2002

Mouawad returned to design this rose garden-inspired Fantasy Bra and matching belt. One thousand-six hundred emeralds and 1,150 rubies were punctuated with a 60-carat pear-shaped diamond.

2003

Mouawad’s 2003 creation for the Victoria’s Secret fashion show featured a 69-carat diamond pendant dangling from a Fantasy Bra made of yellow-orange sapphires, rhodolites, amethysts and more diamonds. Matching bejeweled underwear completed the set.

2004

Banks’ second Fantasy Bra was worth more than triple the price thanks to its 70-carat pear-shaped diamond centerpiece. Mouawad’s glamorous undergarment also included 2,900 smaller stones set in white gold boning.

2005

Mouawad’s next Fantasy Bra featured a floral geometric pattern adorned with 2,900 pavé diamonds and 22 rubies set in 18-carat white gold. A 101-carat diamond and a matching belt added to the extravagance.

2006

As its name suggests, American jeweler Hearts on Fire crafted the 2006 Fantasy Bra. Worn by Karolina Kurkova, it was decorated with 2,000 diamonds and a floral pendant with an additional 10-carat diamond in the center.

2007

Mouawad’s festive Fantasy undergarments consisted of a bra, thong, garter, barrette and cuff bracelet featuring holly and poinsettia motifs. The 18-karat gold set was bedazzled with 584 carats of diamonds, 797 carats of emeralds, 276 carats of rubies and three carats of yellow sapphires.

2008

Beverly Hills-based jeweler Martin Katz designed Adriana Lima’s first Fantasy Bra. The black diamond piece was covered in 3,900 gems including 117 white diamonds and 34 rubies.

2009

Italian jeweler Damiani created Marisa Miller’s Harlequin Fantasy Bra. White and colored diamonds adorned the cups, while a 16-carat heart-shaped diamond dangled from the center.

2010

Damiani’s second Fantasy Bra was crafted with 3,000 jewels set in 18-karat white gold. It took 1,500 hours to complete the impressive diamond, sapphire and topaz-encrusted piece.

2011

Naturally, Miranda Kerr’s shell-shaped Fantasy Bra was decorated with a bevy of pearls. London Jewelers also adorned its aquatic-themed creation with diamonds and a tassel featuring emerald-cut aquamarine and citrine stones.

2012

London Jewelers returned to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show to create the Floral Fantasy Bra, which featured a botanical lattice design encrusted with amethysts, rubies and sapphires as well as white, pink and yellow diamonds. Set in 18-karat rose and yellow gold, the bra also included a removable 20-carat diamond centerpiece. A matching belt with 5,200 precious stones completed the set.

2013

Six years after debuting their last Fantasy Bra, Mouawad crafted the 2013 iteration modeled by Candice Swanepoel. The most expensive Fantasy Bra since 2005, it was decorated with 5,400 gems including diamonds, rubies, yellow and blue sapphires topped off with a pear-shaped 52-carat ruby.

2014

This time, Mouawad created not one, but two Fantasy Bras for OG Angels Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio. Both sets, which took artisans 1,380 hours to assemble, were strung together with 18-karat gold and came with layered body chains and belts. Lima’s blue assortment was adorned with diamonds, sapphires, amethysts, topazes and agates. Ambrosio’s scarlet set featured even more variety, incorporating diamonds, sapphires, garnets, topazes, quartzes and agates.

2015

Mouawad’s next Fantasy Bra, made for Lily Aldridge, was handset in 18-karat yellow gold. Mimicking a firework pattern, a burst of jewels including diamonds, sapphires, garnets, amethysts, topazes, tourmalines, peridots, quartzes, citrines and tsavorites encrusted the bra and matching belt.

2016

Eddie Borgo’s team of craftsmen put 700 hours into constructing the Bright Night Fantasy Bra and layered body chain, which was covered in emeralds and white diamonds.

2017

The penultimate Fantasy Bra was created Mouawad for Lais Ribeiro. Along with a matching belt and suite of jewelry, the 18-karat gold array featured diamond and sapphire-embellished leaves set among blue topaz stones.

2018

The final Fantasy Bra, worn by Elsa Hosk, was crafted by Swarovski. Their bralette-inspired design was encrusted with 21,000 diamonds.
