China restricts automaker marketing terminology for ADAS


Concerned that consumers don’t understand the capabilities of ADAS, China is restricting how these products are marketed. By Will Girling

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will prohibit automakers from advertising advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) as “smart” or “autonomous”. Details of the government’s meeting with 60 industry representatives on 16 April 2025 were reported by Reuters and corroborated by an unnamed attendee.
