Jill Biden Brings Floral Inspiration in Blue and White Dress as President Joe Biden Addresses the Death of Former President Jimmy Carter

First Lady Jill Biden gravitated toward her signature color on Sunday as President Joe Biden addressed the death of former President Jimmy Carter. The U.S. first lady and president were in the U.S. Virgin Islands at the time of Carter’s death.

For the somber occasion, Jill Biden wore an ornately detailed blue dress with white fabric and three-quarter-length sleeves. The midi dress featured a flared, flowing skirt with a white fabric base and light blue patterns akin to floral inspiration cascading down the fabric.

The bodice of Jill Biden’s dress presented a slight juxtaposition. A light blue, denim-inspired fabric framed Biden’s shoulders and the neckline of her summery frock. Given that the Bidens were stationed in the U.S. Virgin Islands for one of their final trips before the end of Joe Biden’s term in office, the dress suited the atmosphere and environment despite the rather somber and sobering news.

“What I find extraordinary about Jimmy Carter, though, is that millions of people all around the world, all over the world, feel they lost a friend as well, even though they never met him,” Biden said of the late former president’s death. “That’s because Jimmy Carter lived a life measured not by words, but by his deeds.”

Carter died on Sunday at the age of 100. The 39th U.S. president, Carter held office from January 1977 until January 1981, and was succeeded by former President Ronald Reagan.

Throughout her time as the first lady, Jill Biden regularly styled dynamic hues of blue for various public engagements and special occasions. Over the course of the last four years, she wore blue looks courtesy of Ralph Lauren, Sergio Hudson and Schiaparelli.

The Bidens’ trip to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands marks the couple’s final holiday vacation before they depart the White House in January.
